 Directors

Stephen Garrett - Joint Managing Director
Stephen Garrett

Stephen Garrett's passion for shepherding new and exciting talent started at Channel 4, where he was commissioning editor for youth programmes from 1987 to 1992. This followed an apprenticeship as researcher, then freelance producer/director at Granada, Tyne Tees, Southern and the BBC. At C4 Stephen gave “first breaks” to a wide range of writers and directors, including such now-established talents as "The Full Monty" director Peter Cattaneo and its writer Simon Beaufoy. Responsible for over 100 hours of broadcasting a year, Stephen was involved in everything from the youth drama Teenage Health Freak (directed by Cattaneo), post-punk magic show The Secret Cabaret and the ground-breaking late-night love-it-or-loathe-it series The Word. Stephen left to co-found Kudos, which immediately distinguished itself with a host of innovative, unusual and provocative programming, including the seriocomic religious quest series Desperately Seeking Something, and the controversial poverty-themed game show Come On Down and Out.

Stephen's first notable film success with Kudos was the Beaufoy-penned, critically hailed drama Among Giants, which Stephen produced. Since then, Stephen's list of producing credits has been equally impressive, from Psychos (executive producer) to Pure (joint executive producer) to The Magician's House (executive producer). After bringing on Jane Featherstone as a partner to invigorate Kudos’ TV arm, the company has galvanized British television with the popular, acclaimed shows Spooks (the first series of which Stephen executive produced) and Hustle. Recently Stephen invited former Film Four head Paul Webster to join himself and Jane Featherstone as a partner in an exciting new stand-alone film-making entity: Kudos Pictures. Stephen studied law at Oxford, where he also edited the university magazine Isis, and counts his first media break as a 6-year-old extra in two Milky Bar Kid commercials.

Jane Featherstone - Joint Managing Director
Jane Featherstone

When Jane Featherstone joined Kudos in September of 2000, she already boasted an incredible, fast-rising career in TV production, a medium she'd set her sights on since her days at Leeds University and as a PA to footballer Paul Gascoigne during his memorably tumultuous year of 1991. After a brief stint running a theatre company called Brouhaha, Jane became a production secretary at Hat Trick Productions, where she worked on the hit shows Whose Line Is It Anyway?, Have I Got News For You and Drop the Dead Donkey. Jane played a key role in Hat Trick's move into drama, line producing both the RTS Award-winning A Very Open Prison for Screen 2, and Eleven Men Against Eleven for Channel 4. Tony Garnett at World Productions gave the then-25-year-old Jane the chance to produce a new pilot drama in 1995. Jane followed that by producing the first two series of the award-winning, BAFTA-nominated ITV suspense series Touching Evil, written by Paul Abbott and starring Robson Green, and then the highly successful BAFTA-nominated BBC TWO film Sex 'n' Death for Hat Trick Productions.

Jane also produced the acclaimed BBC ONE series Glasgow Kiss, written by Stephen Greenhorn and starring Iain Glen and Sharon Small, for Wall to Wall Television. Jane joined Kudos as Head of Drama and now co-owns the company with Stephen Garrett as Joint Managing Director. Jane's out-of-the-box success was producing the first series of the immensely popular, BAFTA award-winning Spooks. She has since executive produced subsequent series of the show and executive produced Kudos's latest drama series hit, Hustle. She is also joint executive producer of Kudos' second feature film, Pure, and executive producer of the Channel 4 drama Pleasureland.

Paul Webster – Head of Film

Paul Webster has been in the film business for nearly thirty years. Starting quite literally at the bottom he began his career in a basement office beneath the Gate Cinema in London working as a despatch clerk. He then spent ten years in exhibition and distribution before moving into production in the mid-eighties. His first feature, Dream Demon for Palace Pictures was followed by a five-year association with Working Title Films where he produced five features and set up and ran their Los Angeles office. He then went independent, producing three films in America including the critically acclaimed Little Odessa.

In 1995 he became Head of Production at Miramax films supervising such films as The English Patient, Wings of a Dove and Shakespeare in Love. In 1998 he set up FilmFour Ltd where in five years he oversaw the production of over forty, principally British, features. Highlights included The Motorcycle Diaries, East is East, Sexy Beast and Touching the Void. Paul has produced or executive produced over 29 films to date and has been associated with films that have won over 100 awards including 3 winners of the BAFTA for Best British Film and 6 Oscar nominated pictures. In 2004 he produced Pride & Prejudice for Working Title Films starring Keira Knightley and Matthew MacFadyen and most importantly started Kudos Pictures with Stephen Garrett and Jane Featherstone.

Simon Crawford Collins - Director of Drama

After studying history at Oxford, Simon worked for five years in the City. In summer 1994, he gave it all up to pursue the wild idea of working in film and TV drama. Following his first job as a runner, Simon worked for several years as a location manager (Spiceworld, An Ideal Husband) – progressing to line producer in 1999 (The Railway Children, Poirot, Sex ‘n’ Death). In 2001 Jane Featherstone asked Simon to help develop and produce Spooks. Simon produced the first two series of the BAFTA-winning spy series and executive produced the third. He produced the first series of Hustle and executive produced series two with Jane Featherstone. Simon now works in-house across the slate at Kudos as Director of Drama.

  Daniel Isaacs - Commercial Director

Daniel graduated in 1997 from the Media Business School in Spain with a Masters in Audiovisual Management. Prior to joining Kudos, Daniel worked at ITV Network Centre in Business Affairs, and then spent four years as Head of Commercial Affairs at Hewland International. Daniel is Kudos’ Commercial Director, and is responsible for business and commercial affairs, business development and strategy and provides management support to Stephen Garrett and Jane Featherstone.
