“The
performances...are superb.... But young Harry Eden carries the film
from beginning to end... It is simply one of the best performances
by a child actor in the history of British cinema.” **** Empire
“The power of Gillies Mackinnon’s film is its ghastly
plausibility... it poses the kind of questions only great films dare
ask.” The Times
“Exceptional lead performances…
one of (Mackinnon’s) most achieved productions to date. Eden...
a combination of vulnerability, resourcefulness, toughness and fragility.
It’s an outstanding juvenile performance.” Variety
“Features one of the best performances
I have ever seen from a child actor....human interest drama at its
most accessible.” Daily Mail
“A highly impressive package.” **** Film Review
