Stephen Garrett met Paul Webster through a shared fondness for a Manchester-based football team, famous for their red strip. Stephen introduced Paul to Jane, and while she prefers her soccer aces from Crystal Palace, everyone got on famously. In 2004, they formed Kudos Pictures.
Kudos’ film arm has at its heart a desire to create the sort of cinema that reflects the sensibility of its tv side – intelligent and entertaining eclecticism, commercial not crass, populist and provocative, rather than perverse or passive. So, from the African flamingoes of Crimson Wing to the tattooed Russian Mafiosi of Eastern Promises via the ‘30’s party animals of Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day, the people that inhabit the world of Kudos Pictures straddle time, place and genre with each and every different movie.
Kudos Pictures are proud to have a development roster which includes work from established writers like the Oscar-nominated Simon Beaufoy, Steve Knight and Abi Morgan, as well as new to film writers, many of whom have cut their teeth on the tv side of the company.
